Johanna Louisa WEGNER-Generation 6
Johanna Louisa WEGNER
Birth: 25 Jul 1848, Pommerina, Germany
Death: 25 Apr 1918
Father: Karl WEGNER (1822-)
Mother: Anna GOLLNAW (1815-1892)
CAME OVER FROM GERMANY: Johanna came over to America from Germany in September of 1869.
MARRIAGE: The story has it that Johanna met her husband, Frederich Beyer, on the ship coming over to America and they were then married. She married him on November 30, 1869 after a courtship of only 6 weeks. It seems that the story about the shipboard romance is not true because the dates of their coming to America do not agree.
CHILDREN: A note on some information Richard received said that "the first four children of the marriage died in infancy". If this is true, it would mean that there were four children born before Grandpa Beyer, all of who died in infancy. The time of their marriage in 1869 to Grandpa Beyer's birth in 1874 would allow enough time for this to take place.
RELATED TO ALL THE WEGNERS IN THE FREELAND AREA: Johanna was a sister to Bill Wegner (father of Herman Wegner, "Butcher" Bill Wegner, and Mrs. Hensler) and to Carl Wegner (father of Elmer Wegner). The children were all neighbors of our family and most were members of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Freeland, Michigan. There is some disagreement as to whether Carl or Bill should be the father of Elmer Wegner.
LIVED WITH HER SON (Ernst and wife Louise): After her husband died on the home farm for a number of years. She was the mother-in-law in the picture until not to long before the birth of her son's 3rd child, Anna.
DIED : She died on April 25, 1918 and was buried on the Beyer Family plot in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Freeland, Michigan.
